Merry Christmas and Thank You for a Great Year!

As the final mad-dash sprint for the holidays begins, we want to take a moment to wish you the most wonderful and Merry Christmas, from our home to yours.

Merry Christmas from Our House to Yours

And we want to thank you for joining us in our travels and on our many scenic drives and quiet walks through the woods this past year.

When we were lucky enough to walk right into a gorgeous sunset, we took an extra moment to enjoy it, knowing you’d appreciate our pics and would savor the moment with us.

We hope our journey has given you some pause for reflection.

Sometimes it’s only when you step back a bit that you discover you’re living right next to a pot of gold!

Or that the spark of the Divine is just behind you.

At those times it’s good to step outside the box for a closer look.

We hope that when storm clouds have gathered we’ve helped you see the light within.

And that you’ve soared to the peaks high above the clouds.

Afterall, every cloud has a silver lining, and on closer inspection sometimes that lining turns out to be pink.

In our travels we’re often blessed with chance encounters.

For those who have recognized us on the trail or in the campground or at the dump station, thank you for taking the time to stop and chat. We treasure making new friends in unexpected places.

We hope we’ve helped bring out the vibrant colors radiating from even the most drab landscapes.

And that we’ve shown that life’s sweetest beauty often lies right at our feet in the sand.

We hope that your innermost desires and dreams have been able to take root this year, no matter how impossible they might have seemed at the start.

And we hope you have the tenacity to hang onto those precious dreams and believe in yourself and them, no matter what.

There’s a lot of beauty out there waiting to be seen and experienced by eager travelers.

  1. Thank you for the great Christmas card! I wish for you, Mark, and Buddy a Very Merry Christmas and many blessings in the coming year!

  2. Thanks for those beautiful photos! Your travel throughout the year has brought all of the beauty of this great country to those of us who have not been able to travel. Wishing you and Mark a Merry Christmas!

    • It’s such a beautiful country with so many spectacular nooks and crannies to explore, Pete. We are fortunate to have seen so much. It is a blessing to be able to share our experiences right from our laptops too. Merry Christmas to you and Ursula!!

  3. Emily, Mark & Buddy,
Your travel blogs have been gift which comes throughout the year. They are as informative as they are entertaining and the photography is always spectacular–that extra mile (often twice) and early mornings have paid dividends.
Your descriptions of “roads less traveled” (Ayuh, I’m a Vermonter and Robert Frost fan) have me taking notes and bookmarking blogs for ideas for our next road trip. We’ll never be full time RVers but some three month long journeys in our little teardrop travel trailer (complete with roof mounted solar panels-thanks for your advice Emily) have taken us to many very special places and introduced us to some new friends throughout the U.S. and Canada.
You continue to inspire this retired veterinarian and his honey bun.
Returning your best wishes for a joyous Christmas and safe travels in the new year,
Stewart (a.k.a. the Vermont Teardrop Traveler)

    • Oh my, thank you very much, Stewart (a.k.a. VTT!). It means so much to know that we’ve inspired you and given you ideas for places to visit. You CAN get theya from heeya (despite the hilarious tales from Bert and I), and I know you’ll have a blast with your solar powered tear drop trailer in the hinterlands. Have a wonderful Christmas and thank you very much for your heartfelt note.

  4. Thanks for you many posts. As we sit home planning out next trip we can enjoy you travels and beautiful pictures. Where in AZ do you recommend boondocking as we have seen in your pictures

    • You are welcome. We know how important armchair traveling can be when you’re planning a getaway or dreaming of future trips! Arizona has many many beautiful dry campgrounds and dispersed camping areas all around the state, and you can see links to all of our Arizona RV travels here. Roosevelt Lake and the land around Quartzsite are wonderful spots in the Sonoran Desert.

  5. Have a great Holiday season. Always enjoy your fantastic photography and great writing. We will head south in March for our annual getaway from the cold north. Have to get in our skiing first. Always look forward for ideas on new places to go. Thanks

    • Thanks for joining us in our journey via the web, Richard, and thank you for the compliments on our photography too. The skiing sounds fun. We’ve had a hankering to do something snow-related too but haven’t put all the pieces together just yet. Enjoy your travels and the fluffy white stuff!

  6. I have SO enjoyed your amazingly beautiful photos and anecdotes of your travels. I’ve been inspired so much that I’ve bought an RV, am getting a puppy tomorrow and am hitting the road on New Years. Want to do and see all the places you’ve described. Thank you so much!!

  7. Hi there and Merry Christmas to you also. We just want to thank you for all the inspiration, advise and wonderful photos of our great nation’s wonderland. I, for one, admire your lifestyle. I pray that 2019 will be a great year for you. Thanks!

    • You are so very welcome, Bill & Charlotte & Lucylu. We are fortunate to live in a truly beautiful country, and we are lucky to be traveling in an era with digital photography and the internet. Our lifestyle is extremely fulfilling, although it can be a bit rustic at times (we’ve been luxuriating in “real” showers at friends’ houses lately!). Thank you for the prayers. 2019 will be an exciting year in every respect (we have some ideas up our sleeves that we’re still working out). Merry Christmas!!

  8. Very clever, Emily. Thanks for all the beautiful pictures and interesting stories from the road, places most of us will never have the chance to visit.
    Bob

    • I’m afraid we’ve barely scratched the surface, Bob, but our knowledge of and feeling for the back roads in our country is growing day by day. And none of the memories would be as clearly crystallized if we didn’t study our photos to find the best ones and take the time to package each experience into little pictorial vignettes for our blog. Thank you for reading and appreciating!

  9. MERRY CHRISTMAS, Emily, Mark and Buddy – and thank you for this armchair travelogue, BEST OF RLT 2018. Wishing you more of the same in 2019 – the discovery of the unparalleled beauty of America that you will share with your appreciative audience. HAPPY NEW YEAR, travelers all…..

    • Merry Christmas to you too! There is so much beauty tucked away in special places in America, it gives us great pleasure to be able to share what we see with you and all our readers. Thank you for being so appreciative of our efforts!!

  10. We have so enjoyed your adventures this year and I always wait to open your emails when I can see them on “the big screen”, aka my computer. LOL. I love seeing Buddy in all the posts now. He just brightens my day! Merry Christmas to all of you! Looking forward to seeing your posts next year!

    • Thank you, Janet! How flattering that you wait to see our pics on the big screen — love it! And we’re tickled you enjoy our little Buddy. He’s a precious part of our lives now, and he winds up in the camera frame more often than not!! Merry Christmas to you and Steve and happy travels in 2019.

  11. I so love reading all your posts and thank you for sharing all your Holiday travels and you gorgeous pictures 🙂
