- Escapees Magazine features our story "Pacing Your RV Travels"

Escapees Magazine
May-June 2013Posted May 2, 2013
Escapees Magazine has featured our story Pacing Your RV Travels in their May-June 2013 issue. When we started our full-time RV travels six years ago, we hurried and hustled just like all new full-timers do. We wanted to see it all, and see it all Right Now. Since then, we have learned to slow down and immerse ourselves a little deeper in our travels, finding hobbies and a “theme” that have given greater meaning to our journey…
Escapees is a multi-faceted organization that looks after the needs of RVers. From their wonderful bi-monthly magazine to their awesome database of boondocking locations, to their Texas-based mail forwarding service, to their involvement in RV advocacy, to their many inexpensive member RV parks, to their programs for elderly RVers that have hung up their keys for good, Escapees is an excellent organization for all RVers to join…

Zihuatanejo Sail Fest 2013
Ketch “Liebling” & Catamaran “Rapscullion”Posted March 21, 2013
What a total thrill — Blue Water Sailing Magazine has put my photo on the cover of their April, 2013 issue. On newstands now! Get a copy!!
I took the photo during Zihuatanejo Sail Fest this year. Part of this festival, which benefits the underprivileged school children of the area, is a boat parade where all the boats cruise around the bay under sail.
The fun part about this pic is that we know the good folks on both boats. The boat under sail is an Amel 54 ketch called Liebling, with seasoned Mexico cruisers Linda and Jim aboard. I was delighted when they sailed near the pretty turrets and roof-lines of some of the villas in the heart of the bay. Their boat is also in the banner photo at the top of this page along with the schooner Patricia Belle.
At anchor just to the right of the ketch is the Fontaine-Pajot catamaran Rapscullion. Henry, her single-handing owner, has brought her back north this season after cruising the Pacific coast of Central America for a while.
Sail Fest was a great success this year, due largely to the tireless efforts of Pamela Bendall, reportedly raising $67,000 USD to help educate the children of Zihuatanejo.

Posted: August 18, 2012
The September, 2012 issue of Cruising World Magazine is featuring our story about voyaging down the Pacific coast of the Baja Peninsula from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas.

Baja Aha!
Groovy sails southWe had great adventures on that cruise in November, 2010. We were new to the cruising life and we were a little scared, but we were also very excited. When darkness fell on our first night offshore, we were surprised to find comforting company over the radio in the pitch black. Our beginner’s luck held for a few days, but of course cruising wouldn’t be cruising without mishaps…The article is called “Baja Aha” and should be on newsstands until mid-September. I’m really proud to have made it into this prestigious magazine. Check it out and let us know how you liked it!!
If you don’t subscribe to CW, it’s a great magazine. I’ve subscribed off-and-on since the late 1980′s! Here are subscription links for both the print and Kindle editions. Did you know you can get a year of CW for $1.99 on Kindle?!! (It’s the link with no price listed…) Save those trees!
- Coast-to-Coast Magazine puts our photo on the Cover AND features our story - Summer 2012!!

Posted: July 1, 2012
The Summer 2012 issue of Coast-to-Coast Magazine has my photo on their cover. WOW!! Plus, they are featuring my story, “Everything Under the Sun,” about two fabulous (and little visited) camping areas in Arizona’s Tonto National Forest.
The fifith wheel driving off into the distance in this photo belongs to our friends Bob & Donna Lea Jensen.
25-year veteran snow-bird RVers, they introduced themselves to us on a dark winter night in while we were boondocked near them in Quartzsite, Arizona. Knowing we didn’t have enough solar power to be able to run our microwave, they brought a bag of hot popcorn over to our cold, unheated trailer. In the next few weeks they proceeded to teach us all about boondocking.
It felt wonderful to be able to repay them with a magazine cover shot of their trailer. And hopefully this website can be our ‘hot bag of popcorn’ for all RVers that are just getting started…

We dropped the good folks at Latitude 38 a line while anchored in what turned out to be the front row seats of a beautiful yacht race in Acapulco. We aren’t racers, so this was very exciting, especially when two of the TP-52′s collided. We got lots of pics and shared them with Richard Spindler, the magazine’s publisher. He, in turn, profiled us in the next Changes in Latitudes section of their magazine.

I started this website in the fall of 2008 using the very user-friendly WYSIWYG HTML website generator Shutterbug from XtraLean Software. During the summer of 2012 I migrated it to WordPress (using the Twenty-Eleven theme) to give the site a more modern look-and-feel and to take advantage of the WordPress database foundation. At the time the site had 0ver 220 pages and 6,000 photos. All the existing pages retained their original layout and will remain that way.
